Supervision
What is Supervision?
Supervision is a formal process that assists practitioners in building on their skills, knowledge, and competency in their area of work. Practitioners attend pre-arranged sessions regularly, with a Supervisor, to discuss their work. The supervision session is a structured environment – goals are established with the supervisee, ideas and possibilities for learning are created.
Our Supervision Philosophy
We offer a confidential, professional process that aims at working with practitioner to develop their efficacy and mindfulness, maintain adequate standards of practice, and widen their horizon. This learning experience is based on reflective practice, mentoring and coaching, and the knowledge of the supervisee and supervisor. The supervision alliance will assist the supervisee to discover their innate abilities, to become competent and proficient in their area of work. Supervisees are able to discuss challenging situations in a safe environment.
Who can attend supervision?
This service is useful for practitioners at the beginning of their learning experience, who are considerably experienced in their area of work, and anywhere in between. We supervise in areas of psychotherapy, psychology, conflict coaching, counselling, family dispute resolution, and mediation.
Why is supervision essential?
Family Dispute Resolution/Mediation Supervision
It is now a requirement to complete a Vocational Graduate Diploma Course in Family Dispute Resolution to become an accredited mediator. It will become increasingly difficult for individuals hoping to fast-track their learning experience and exposure to various types of cases. We offer practitioners formal supervision to assist in developing skills and techniques in mediation, their understanding of the mediation model, dealing with complex cases, and working towards the development of an independent professional identity.
Counselling/Psychology/Psychotherapy Supervision
In accordance with the Australian Psychological Society a minimum of 10 CPD hours per annual cycle must involve either peer consultation or supervsion that has a criticaly reflective focus on the members own practice of psychology. We offer practitioners reflective supervision that is focused on professionally and personally focused examining both practice, life as a practitioner and business development.
Supervision plan
During the initial supervision session, the supervisor and supervisee develops a “contract”, which includes the goals and expectations of supervision. These goals are generated through discussion and exploration with the supervisor. Practical matters are discussed, such as frequency of sessions, duration, feedback processes, and availability of all involved. The supervisor is interested in the supervisee’s background and training, level of experience, previous supervision experiences, area of work, case types and case loads. The supervisor shares their level of experience, background and training, areas of interest, and supervision style.
What occurs in future supervision sessions is dependent on the supervisee’s learning journey, and what they bring to the process.
Forms of supervision
We offer individual supervision and group supervision (up to 6 supervisees).
How often?
